I AM LOVE.

I will never forget the anticipation that grew as I paid for my deposit and began the application for the Yoga teacher training program at Kashi Urban Yoga Ashram. My fingers hovered over the keyboard as I prepared to answer the first question: "Who are you?" It seemed straight forward enough...who am I? Okay, I am a friend, a daughter, a mother, a nature lover, a people lover, a humanitarian, an artist, a tree hugger, a piano player, a meditator, a volunteer, a mentor, a...the list went on. I felt happy with my answer and confident that I truly knew who I was as I typed away. But then something happened...

I studied intensely under Swami Jaya Devi as well as my mentor Maha Devi, and several other amazing senior teachers for the next six months. I experienced and witnessed profound self discoveries during our very intimate darshans. The energy, or Shakti, felt during lengthy practices of Kirtan as well as the mystery of deep spiritual travels during meditations were undeniable and life-changing. I don't even know if I was fully aware of how much transformation was taking place until it...

Our Yoga teacher training program was coming to a quick close. I had completed all of my paperwork, satisfied the required class hours, met the requirements for Spiritual Growth & Meditation practices, taught my first real class, successfully fulfilled my Karma Yoga projects, and now it was time for my final exam. Again, I found myself in front of the computer with eyes squinted, lips pursed, typing away, pouring my heart and soul into each lengthy essay style response until I reached the final question:

"WHO ARE YOU?"

With complete confidence, and without hesitation, I answered...

I AM LOVE.

I knew in that moment, but not before that, that who I am, the "definition" of ME, is not my family title, job title, social status, or hobby. Those are all very valuable and sacred roles I play in life, but the truth of who I am, is love. Isn't that who we should all be? Of all the roles you play and the things you do in a day, the most important thing you can do or be, is...love.
